Bringing the family to Sligo? You’ll be glad to know that whatever the weather you’ll find plenty to occupy everyone all year round. It doesn’t always have to cost the earth either.
Sligo is on the Wild Atlantic Way and within a 10 minute of Sligo Town you’ll find beautiful sandy beaches where the kids can let off steam and have some fun. All you need is appropriate clothing – which could be swimsuits or wellies depending on the weather gods. Rosses Point, Strandhill, Streedagh, Drumoran, Enniscrone and Mullaghmore are all worth exploring. Beach activities can be fun for everyone too – surfing or SUPping, sea kayaking or horse riding on the beach are all available. Sligo Yacht Club offers sailing courses for children during the summer.
Everyone enjoys a family movie and the Omniplex Cinemas is a short walk from the Glasshouse. The nearby Model Arts Centre and Hawkswell Theatre have family shows, workshops and events regularly, especially during mid-term breaks and holidays.
For the little ones, we can recommend Five Star Fun ( this is a 20 minute drive / north ) just the ticket with two supervised soft play areas, for toddlers and for older children. A café area with comfy seats means Mum and Dad can take a well earned break. Funny Bones in Collooney is another great option for indoor play and also has Vertigo – the climbing wall for all the family. Or plan a day of it with fun and some sight-seeing with Five Star fun in Grange and call into the Rathcormac Craft Village, Glencar Waterfall or Lissadell House.
