Innisfree is a small island in Lough Gill. Innisfree is an uninhabited island but is rather wild and pretty. It inspired the poem 'The Lake Isle of Innisfree' by William Butler Yeats the famous Irish poet. When on Innisfree you may be able to capture the mood the poet wanted to portray. W.B. Yeats. The 12 line poem, was first published in 1890 was inspired by Yeats’ childhood summers which were spent in the area.
Innisfree offers superb hiking trails and from there find the perfect location for a picnic where you can enjoy lovely scenic views of the lake. It can also be viewed less than 100m from Southern shore of Lough Gill.
